Plus, four Important things to know about Barrier Group's Custom Safety Product Solutions
In Australia, the demand for custom safety products and solutions continues to grow, particularly in factory, warehouse, logistics and manufacturing environments. According to Expert Market Research, the Australian warehouse market was worth 19.5 billion AUD in 2024. It is expected to grow at an annual rate of 8.60% from 2025 to 2034.
While it is undeniable that Australian businesses are pursuing cutting-edge safety solutions to fulfil industry demands and adhere to safety laws and regulatory requirements, Barrier Group focuses on making custom safety solutions for many different safety problems. From custom bollards to railings and industrial safety fencing, these tailored solutions are central to tackling the distinct safety challenges that industrial and warehousing environments face.
"At Barrier Group, our ability to be agile, creative, and innovative with custom safety product solutions allows us to stay ahead of industry trends and provide safety solutions in warehouses and manufacturing tailored to industry needs and regulatory legislation," says Ming, Product Solutions Manager at Barrier Group. "It's about staying ahead of the competitive landscape by tailoring to customer needs and balancing that while also ensuring feasibility that meets both safety requirements and functional performance."
Coinciding with the increased demand for customised safety products from warehouses, logistics companies, manufacturers, and local councils in Australia, we spoke with the Barrier Group Product Solutions Team of Ming, Euan and Rebecca to learn more about custom safety product solutions.
What industries often require custom safety products?
What industries do you find often require modified or customised safety products? According to Barrier Group's Product Design Engineer, Euan, it's a wide mix of "manufacturing facilities, construction sites, warehouses, shopping centres, and public infrastructure. Particularly in warehouse and manufacturing facilities, the increasing trend of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and development, combined with new Australian standards and breakings, have necessitated custom safety products to separate workers from this new technology."
But it's not just about creating customised safety solutions tailored to customers' needs. "At Barrier Group, we have the ability to take customer feedback from a previous project and adapt it to other relevant safety solutions. "Quite often, this leads to new products and product variations being developed as a result," says Rebecca, an Industrial Designer and Estimator at Barrier Group.
So, it's good to know that many industries rely on modified and customised safety products to meet evolving workplace challenges. The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), increasing automation, and new Australian Standards have particularly increased the demand for custom safety products, ensuring worker protection in these dynamic working environments.
This approach helps businesses follow safety laws and rules. It also improves workplace safety and works well with new technologies.
4 Important Things To Know About Barrier Group's Custom Safety Product Solutions
Today, with over 20+ years of experience, safety product customisation and fabrication are at the heart of Barrier Group's guiding principles. Are you curious to learn more about Barrier Group's product customisation capabilities? The Product Solutions team revealed four things that they believe are important to know:
What common safety products do you find you often customise or modify?
Lately, a wide variety of products have been customised to meet unique customers' needs. For example:
- Industrial gates, such as a Mezzanine Roll-Over Gate, recently needed to operate over a wider span.
- Bollards are a safety product often requiring specific modifications to meet our client's unique safety and operational needs in various industrial and commercial settings.
- Hand and Guard Rails are commonly requested to be cut to specific sizes.
Industrial Safety Fencing (Machinery Guarding)
"Our Industrial Safety Fencing is a popular machine guarding product that often requires specific product customisation and modification to meet our client's operational needs in industrial and commercial settings," explains Ming, "as such, recently we worked with a food manufacturing facility where we had to modify a gate to be able to operate whilst preventing unauthorised access to the robotic operation area.
Industrial Safety Fencing (machine guarding) helps workplaces protect employees. Machine Guarding is designed to effectively separate pedestrians, machinery, and vehicles (like forklifts). This system provides a robust physical barrier shields warehouse and factory workers from potentially hazardous equipment.
Rebecca adds that "Industrial Safety Fencing can be utilised in a variety of different commercial, warehouse and manufacturing facilities to protect their staff from machinery. Whether it's a machine with moving parts, impact zones, or robotic machinery, employees will need to be protected by safety barriers like machine guarding."
What's the customer process whilst working with Barrier Group, and when will you become involved?
Firstly, once contacted, whether it's by contact form or calling 1300 55 33 20, we can often arrange to do an on-site assessment of your facility. "We guide the customisation and alignment with various safety regulations," explains Euan, "we then coordinate with the production team and try our best to meet delivery timelines set out by the customer and make sure there aren't any issues making sure the customer gets the best quality product and service."
