The Problem
In mid-2018, Australian retail giant Cotton On opened their brand-new distribution centre in Beach Road, Avalon. Cotton On has almost 1,500 stores in 12 countries with nearly 17,000 team members and has some mighty big distribution centres but before the new distribution centre could become operational Cotton On hired Barrier Group to install effective pedestrian/forklift separation and loading dock bays.
The Solution
Consultation with our dedicated and experienced on-site team was extensive and on-going throughout the installation phase and beyond. Barrier Group's professional installation team applied extensive line-marking and on-floor signage to highlight pedestrian walkways and crossings, forklift parking bays and docking bays. We also protected pedestrian walkways with extensive use of double U-bars and highly visible powder-coated W beam, ball fence and ER-rail fencing systems. Other areas were cordoned off with De-fence panels and gates. Menni racking protectors were also installed to protect the pallet racking from forklift impacts.
The Challenges
In one specific area, the customer required two ball fence gates to hinge saloon-style over a 4-metre gap. Standard ball fence gates usually are supplied with 1.5-metre hoops, but in this instance, we were able to manufacture gates with custom 2-metre hoops to span the gap. We also made 90 custom retractable belt units with heavy-duty magnetic belt ends for use in the warehouse.
Client Response
The customer was happy that they had been part of the consultation process from start to finish. They were especially pleased that we were able to customise products to suit their applications.
