Luv-a Duck Pty Ltd
The Luv-a-Duck journey started with a simple love of flavour and family, in Arthur Shoppee's backyard in the 1960's. Today, that same love makes us Australia's leading duck producer. Luv-a-Duck is still a family-owned Australian business employing people nationally in a variety of roles that assists in the operation of our fully vertically integrated agribusiness. Luv-a-Duck products are featured on 5-star menus from the Middle East, through Asia, to the Pacific Islands.

The Problem
The Luv-a-Duck facility operates as a sizable chiller factory, with a structure meticulously designed for temperature control, boasting fully insulated walls. However, a notable issue arose as employees utilised hand trolleys to navigate products within the facility, resulting in frequent collisions with the insulated walls, causing damage. The financial implications of repairing or replacing these insulated walls proved to be substantial.
The Solution
The Barrier Group team conducted a site visit to assess the situation and start working on an ad-hoc solution for Luv-a-Duck’s ongoing and costly challenge. A suitable Trolley Bump Rail was able to be created from Barrier Group’s modular NoWeld handrail system. By installing it around the perimeter of each working area it was proven to safeguard against the constant impacts. The end result was over 280m of railing successfully installed throughout the site.
The Challenges
The Luv-a-Duck facility is constantly being cleaned and washed down to regulate and comply with required food handling standards. This meant that anything installed had to also be waterproofed and completely sealed. Silicon sealing was used on each of the bump rails installation points to achieve this standard.
Risks of any kind of foreign body contamination were avoided by having the Barrier Group installation team set up a designated cutting are outside the facility, where each section of railing was cut to size prior to being installed inside. The team wore full head to toe PPE including hi vis overalls, hair covers, beard covers, face masks, hearing protection, eye protection and gloves.
Client Response
"Luv-a-duck extends its sincerest gratitude for the exceptional work your team has done at our facility. The implementation of the Trolley Bump Rail has effectively mitigated the frequent collisions with our insulated walls, but it has also alleviated the financial strain associated with repairs."
